Srila Prabhupada

The Hare Krishna Project was set up in 2021 based on the teachings of, and thanks to the inspiration given by A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.

We are passionate about spreading the mission of this saintly man with anyone and everyone who we come into contact with.

Srila Prabhupada (1896-1977) is the extraordinary person who dedicated his life to teaching the world about Krishna Consciousness, ancient India's most noble message of spiritual wisdom.

In 1965, at the age of 69, on the order of his spiritual master Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur, representing a line of teachers dating back to Lord Krishna Himself, Srila Prabhupada sailed from India to New York to share Lord Krishna's message. He took with him a trunk load of books, a few dollars in his pocket, and the firm faith that the holy name of Krishna would transform the hearts of people he would meet.

In the years that followed, he founded the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), travelled around the globe 14 times, opened more than 100 temples, wrote (or translated into English) more than 60 books and inspired thousands of western people to follow him.

He wrote not only as a scholar but as a dedicated practitioner, teaching by the example of his life. Throughout his works, Srila Prabhupada's mood was to convey the natural meaning of the scriptures without far-fetched interpretations, giving us an authentic presenation of the Vedic texts on such important topics as the purpose of human life, the nature of the soul, consciousness, and God.

Although no longer physically present among us, he lives forever in his instructions, books, videos and audio recordings, and in the hearts of those whose lives he touched.
